Barcolana Regatta 2011


Autumn Cup (Coppa d'Autunno), named after the village of Barcola, is a historical european sailing race born in 1969 thanks to the Società Velica di Barcola e Grignano of Trieste / Italy. It takes place annually in the Gulf of Trieste, every second Sunday in October and is one of the largest sailing races in the world with over 2000 participants.

The first Barcolana took place in 1969, with 51 boats - already a large number considering the number of sailing boats then present in the Gulf of Trieste. The first Autumn Cup was won by Commander Piero Napp from the Società Triestina della Vela: he was not yet aware that his boat Betelgeuse was to become a milestone in Barcolana history.

During the first 20 races, the winners were mostly sailors coming from local Yacht Clubs, but later it started becoming an international event, involving Yacht Clubs from all over the world including the adjacent Slovenia and Croatia, and even Australia. Up to now, it has been the world's regatta with the higher number of participants: almost 25000 sailors and a total number of people involved in the event reaching about 25000.

It is time for Seafood, one of the best places to taste delicious Seafood is Galicia / Spain. "O'Grove" is the festival, during the celebrations, fish and shellfish go on sale at special prices, prepared and served by town locals. The excellent Galician region produce attracts thousands of people every year form everywhere.

The festival is called "O'Groveé which is a nickname indicating to the Seafood Paradise. Apart from Seafood there is also music, traditional dance, competitions and sporting events, as well as seminars and exhibitions about seafood.

The 178th Oktoberfest starts on 17th of September and will end on the 3th of October 2011. As like in the previous years the official starting ceremony will take place this time in the "Schottenhamel Beer Tent". This year there are expected more than 7 million visitors to the Wiesn where the event is held for 3 weeks. Many people from all over the world will swarm to the tents to get a place inside the tent which will be extremely difficult. The beer tents open at 10:00am on weekdays and close at 11:30pm. On the weekends the tents open at 9:00am. 



The " Oktoberfest " which is held every year  goes back to 1810 when a festival was held to honor of  the Bavarian Crown Prince Ludwig's marriage to Princess Therese von Sachsen-Hildburghausen.


The Oktoberfest Beer :

Bier, Breze, Wurst and Sauerkraut
 Only beers which are brewed within the city limits of München (Munich) is allowed to be served during this festival. Not every beer can be served there. There are criterias whcih have to be passed to be a designated Oktoberfest Beer. Oktoberfest Beer is a registered Trademark by the Club of Munich Brewers. Those Breweries are members of this exclusive Club. These Breweries are : Löwenbräu, Augustinerbräu, Paulanerbräu,Hacker-Pschorr Bräu, Hofbräu and Spatenbräu.
